The Press Summer Starter
This one got Brown Bread's heart rate up.
Brown Bread was asked by Fairfax New Zealand to conduct a 'fun run' feasibility study to investigate what it would take to bring in sponsors, how the concept could be unique and fit within tight budget parameters, and how we could integrate a charitable aspect into the event platform.
Following the Christchurch earthquakes, a lot of rebuilding obviously had to be done - and as much as we admire the dedication to get the Central City back up and running, it meant the little guys in the Eastern suburbs needed a little love. Although Brown Bread couldn't speed up the infrastructural development in these suburbs, we could definitely do our bit to help reintroduce some life, colour and wellbeing into the neighbourhood.
The study was given the tick and Brown Bread set to work to develop and implement 'The Summer Starter' that promoted health within Canterbury, gave back to local charities and brightened up the post-quake town. Over 5,000 people and their four-legged friends showed up to run, walk and skip all the way from New Brighton Pier to Redcliffes Park.
After two years of kickstarting it, Brown Bread handed the reigns back over to Fairfax - and they've continued to run the feel-good event in BB style ever since.
