What makes us unusually effective

  1. We read the room

We work across multiple communities and spaces – and are often navigating different generations, ethnicities and political views.
  2. We know uncertainty

Born out of the Christchurch earthquakes, we know how to spot opportunity and keep momentum flowing in bumpy and shifting times.
  3. We work with an unprecedented talent pool

Our long-standing contracts with Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards and the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi mean we have firm friendships with a gang of Aotearoa’s greatest thinkers.
  4. We only know partnership for growth & impact

1+1 has always equaled 10 in our world.
  5. We bring a new definition to wholesome marketing

We make sure brands thinking about the whole picture, not just the bottom line.
  6. We're a BCorp

10 years ago we were the third business in NZ to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. We walk the walk.
  7. We’re full service

After 10 years, we’ve started an in-house design department to work alongside brand strategy, PR and marketing, partnerships, content creation, and events and activations.

Māia Health Foundation

“Experts in starting-up socially driven brand platforms to create real market engagement and impact for social missions, we asked Brown Bread to develop us a three year brand and fundraising strategy to launch a new philanthropic arm for Christchurch’s health sector. When building a new charity – forming trust quickly is everything, and for two years Brown Bread helped us launch innovatively and differently – with every campaign, event and invitation relentlessly speaking to the brand values of Māia.”

– Michael Flatman, Chief Executive Officer, Māia Health Foundation

We were asked by the Canterbury District Health Board to develop a bold and innovative funding strategy and compelling brand for the Māia Health Foundation: a new charity set up to give the community a way to support enriching Canterbury's health services. Our mission? To partner with great businesses and families to engage the community around Māia's first two projects – a bigger and better rooftop helipad on top of Christchurch Hospital, the country's busiest trauma centre, and enhancements to the children facilities.

Ensuring we were able to achieve brand awareness and financial results quickly, we built our own crowdfunding website. From there, we planned and executed an in-kind $500,000, multi-channel media schedule to raise an ambitious $1,000,000 in one month – which we did with our nationwide 13 Minutes campaign. Our role was a two-year contract to not only launch the charity, but also to build capability in the team for it to carry on – and it’s amazing to see the initiatives we developed still in use today.
